Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation projects worth Rs 20,140 crore in sectors such as airports, railways, highways, seaports, petroleum, natural gas, atomic energy and higher education in Tamil Nadu. PM Modi also inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The two-level international terminal built with a capacity to serve over 44 lakh passengers was developed for Rs 1,100 crores. 


According to ANI, PM Narendra Modi inaugurates and lays the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.






 


Addressing the people, PM Modi said, "The last few weeks of 2023 were difficult for many people in Tamil Nadu. We lost many of our fellow citizens due to heavy rains. There has also been a significant loss of property. I was deeply moved by the condition of the affected families. The Central government stands with people of Tamil Nadu in times of crisis." 


"We are providing every possible support to the state government. Just a few days ago, we lost Vijayakanth ji. He was not just Captain in cinema but also in politics. As a politician, he always kept national interest above everything. I also express condolence to his family and admirers. Today, when I'm here I remember, another son of Tamil Nadu, MS Swaminathan ji. He ensured food security for the country. We lost him last year as well," he added. 


Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, "...Under PM Modi's leadership, the government has ensured that airports are not only a medium of travel, but airports become a centre of growth. Airports become a centre of employment for the whole country. "

"The one change that has taken place in the last 9.5 years under PM's leadership in this sector, he has democratized civil aviation for every single citizen of this country. Everyone who wears a 'Hawai Chappal' must also travel in a 'Hawai jahaaj' that is the PM's aspiration for the people of our country," he said.


Apart from the inauguration of Trichy airport's new terminal, PM Modi dedicated several development projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore to the nation in Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation indigenously developed Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) at IGCAR, Kalpakkam.


Prime Minister dedicated to the nation multiple railway projects including the project for doubling of 41.4 Km Salem–Magnesite Junction–Omalur–Mettur Dam section; project for doubling of rail line section of 160 Km from Madurai – Tuticorin; and three projects for rail line electrification viz Tiruchchirappalli- Manamadurai- Virudhunagar; Virudhunagar – Tenkasi Junction; Sengottai – Tenkasi Junction – Tirunelveli- Tiruchendur. The rail projects are expected to help in improving the rail capacity to carry freight and passengers and contribute to economic development and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.


Earlier, PM Modi addressed the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University. Addressing the convocation, PM Modi said, "Being here at the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University is special for me as this is my first public interaction in 2024. I am happy to be in the beautiful state of Tamil Nadu and among young people."


However, on the day of PM Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu, #GoBackModi was trending on Twitter. Two other hashtag including #VanakkamModi and #GoBackFascistModi were also trending on social media.


On PM Modi's visit to Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu BJP state president K Annamalai said, "Today projects worth about Rs 19,850 crores are being dedicated to the people of Tamil Nadu and India including the new airport terminal in Trichy."


"Trichy is a very special place for a PM that's why the party has decided to welcome our PM by doing Swachh Bharat today and 3 days before this. Whenever PM Modi comes to Tamil Nadu, it will always create an impact, especially for motivating our party workers and the public," he said.
