Two died and over 20 persons suffered injuries after a private bus with around 38 passengers overturned while negating a curve near Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad district on Wednesday. The incident took place at 8 AM while the bus was coming from Chennai and proceeding towards Kozhikode. According to PTI, the accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it turned a turtle on the road while negating a bend in the road. Based on the information the police officers rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. 


Two people were declared brought dead at the district hospital in Palakkad. The deceased victims have been identified as Sainaba of Ponnani and Ishan of Kuttyadi. 


Palakkad district police head R Anand told Manorama, three others including the bus driver are critically injured and receiving treatment at Palakkad district hospital. The remaining people are receiving treatment at nearby government and private hospitals. 


The eyewitness said that the vehicle was speeding and the driver while turning a steep curve lost control of the vehicle and hit an electric post due to which the vehicle overturned at the center of the highway. 


The critically injured people were rescued from under the bus, the report said. Two people who were trapped under the bus were rescued after a 20-minute ordeal. 


This is the second accident in a bus plying between Kozhikode and Chennai at Palakkad within a month. Last month, 15 passengers suffered injuries after a private bus overturned near Kongad in Palakkad district. The bus with 21 passengers was travelling from Kozhikode to Chennai. The driver lost control of the bus while negating a curve. 


After the mishap, the police and rescue personnel immediately rushed to the spot. Later, they recovered the injured and took them to the hospital.
