Chennai: Two women software professionals were killed after they were run over by a speeding car on OMR in Chennai. The incident took place while they were returning home on Wednesday.
According to a report on PTI, the two women techies–R Lakshmi (23) of Palakkad and S Lavanya (24) of Tirupati–were employed as analysts at an MNC in Thoraipakkam. On Wednesday, after completing their work, they were returning home from the office at 11.30 pm on Wednesday.
While they were walking towards their home on OMR, a driver who was driving a Honda City above 130 kmph lost control of the vehicle and ran over the two women. In the impact, both the women were thrown at a distance and they suffered severe head injuries.

One of the two women died on the spot while the other died on the way to the hospital. The car driver Motheesh Kumar of Sholinganallur was arrested by the police.
The 20-year-old driver is the son of paper plates manufacturer in Chennai. He was returning from Mamallapuram on the day of the accident.

The government has arranged for ambulances to take the bodies of the two women to their hometowns in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, two school students died after a container lorry hit the two-wheeler in which they were traveling on Chennai-Bangalore Highway in Ambur. The two siblings were driving a pillion with their father at the time of the incident.
The container lorry from Hosur hit the two-wheeler and ran over the two children. The father also suffered serious injuries. The police suspect rash driving as the reason for the accident.
