Chennai: Mainstream narrative of the Freedom Movement taught to students in schools and colleges, by and large, revolves around the history of the Indian National Congress, said Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi in Trichy on Monday. He also said that when we look for a mass movement it could not just be confined only to Indian National Congress.
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi in Trichy said, “Mainstream narrative of National Freedom Movement taught to our students in schools & colleges, by and large, revolves around the history of the Indian National Congress as they were prominently leading the movement.”
“Mahatma Gandhi was at the helm of affairs, so those who were not part of the National freedom movement fell either on the margin or footnote or nowhere,” he said.

RN Ravi said: “When we look for a mass movement it could not just be confined only to Indian National Congress. They were great leaders, no doubt, but there were many more people. That is how we find the people like Dr BR Ambedkar, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Veera Pandiya Kattabomman, Velu Nachiyar, Chidambaram Pillai, Marudhu Brothers, Puli Devan and others.”
"They do not find an adequate place in the mainstream in the National freedom movement and there are many more,” he said.
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi made the statement while participating in a seminar on the Contribution of South Indian Languages during Freedom Struggle at Trichy National College on December 12.
