The Madurai bench of Madras High Court sentenced Pradeep Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary, Highways and Minor Ports Department, to two-week imprisonment in contempt of court case. The court also sentenced two others including Muthuppalanichamy, the then director of teacher education research and training and Boopala Ando, then principal of District Education and Training Institute in Munanchipatti, Tirunelveli district to two weeks imprisonment.
According to ANI, Madurai bench of the Madras High Court sentenced Pradeep Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary, Highways and Minor Ports Department, who was Secretary of the School Education Department, to two weeks imprisonment in a contempt of court case.
Justice Battu Devanand sentenced Muthuppalanichamy, the then director of teacher education research and training, and Boopala Ando, then principal of the District Education and Training Institute in Munanchipatti, Tirunelveli district, to 2 weeks in jail and a fine of Rs 1,000. All 3 officers were directed to surrender before the Registrar (Judicial) of Madurai bench on or before August 9 for further action. The court heard the contempt petition filed in 2020 by P. Gnanaprakasam from Tirunelveli, it said.

Gnana Pragasam was a sweeper-cum-gardener who worked for 40 years and five months and retired on June 20, 2006. As per the GO issued in 1971, the contingent workers employed for more than five years should be regularised. The court directed the government to regularise the petitioner on December 3, 2012.
However, even after several years, the authorities did not comply with the decision, prompting the petitioner to file a contempt petition in 2020, said report on New Indian Express.
