The CPI(M) urged DMK to allocate more seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls than last time, a senior party leader told PTI on Tuesday. The CPI(M) is affiliated with the DMK-led multi-party Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA). Within the current Lok Sabha, the Marxist party holds two seats from Tamil Nadu.
In the previous election, it was allotted two seats to contest, both of which it secured successfully.
Addressing reporters in Villupuram, CPI(M) State Secretary K Balakrishnan said seat-sharing talks are progressing and he expressed hope that they will "end on a conducive note" in the coming days.
The CPI(M) remained an integral part of the SPA in the 2019 general elections and the 2021 assembly polls, in which the alliance emerged victorious and won in the subsequent local body elections. Therefore, there are no chances of any fractures or uncertainties within the coalition, he asserted.
"The CPI(M) won from Madurai and Coimbatore (in 2019). We have sought some additional constituencies also... Everybody is confident that an amicable decision will be arrived at in about 10 days, before the budget session," Balakrishnan stated. However, he refrained from specifying the number of seats the party has requested DMK.
Regarding the BJP's electoral prospects in Tamil Nadu during the Lok Sabha polls, he expressed skepticism, stating that the saffron party would not garner any electoral gains in the state.
DMK-Congress Hold Lok Sabha Alliance Talk
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) leader K S Alagiri recently commented on the discussions with the DMK ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, describing them as satisfactory. He refuted reports suggesting that they had submitted a list of constituencies they wished to contest in the state.
