Chennai: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday ordered the state officials to increase the water level in Siruvani dam a day after his counterpart from Tamil Nadu MK Stalin urged to maintain the FRL of the reservoir. Kerala CM also assured that steps will be taken to provide maximum water supply to Siruvani Dam.
In a tweet, Vijayan said, "Enhanced water release from Siruvani dam to 103 MLD, the maximum possible discharge quantity, from June 20. Requesting @CMOTamilnadu level meet at the earliest to discuss further."

After Kerala increased the water supply, Stalin thanked Pinarayi Vijayan over the phone, said a report on IANS.
TN CM Stalin first wrote a letter to his Kerala counterpart on Sunday urging him to maintain the FRL of 878.50 m of the dam as against the water level of Siruvani Dam at 877 m. He said that the shortage of 1.50 m was making it difficult to manage the water needs of the people of Coimbatore and its adjacent areas.

In the letter, Stalin also called on Vijayan to provide a positive response as the water shortage in Coimbatore and its surrounding areas was becoming a major cause of concern.
The Siruvani dam was constructed by the Kerala Public works Department but the Tamil Nadu government also contributed to the funds to construct the dam.
