Tamil Nadu CM Stalin congratulated 17-year-old chess prodigy Gukesh for entering the top 10 of world (FIDE) rankings for the first time and becoming India's top-ranked player. Gukesh achieved the feat by pushing Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand to the second position in the India ranking.
Taking to X, Stalin said, "Congratulations Grandmaster @DGukesh on your incredible achievement of entering the top 10 of world (FIDE) rankings for the first time. Your determination and skill have propelled you to the top echelon of chess, making you the highest-rated Indian player. Your achievement is an inspiration to young talents everywhere and a proud moment for Tamil Nadu!"

The 17-year-old player is likely to make his way into top 10 in the world, as per a report on ANI. However, the next official FIDE rating list will be released only on September 1.
Gukesh's performance caught the attention of the people in India after teenage Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh upset Magnus Carlsen in the ninth round of the preliminary phase of the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament. He then went to become the youngest to beat the world champion in October last year.
Meltwater Champions Chess Tour which is part of the Aimchess Rapid event said, "Gukesh just became the youngest player to ever beat Magnus after he became WC! Hats off to the 16-Year-Old Indian superstar."
This is the second time Anand dropped to second place in the live world rankings ever since 1986.
Gukesh is the third Indian player to enter top 10 in world ranking only after Anand and Pentala Harikrishna.
Pentala Harikrishna was the then youngest grandmaster from India after attaining the title in 2001.
