Chennai: A car plunged into a stormwater drain that was being constructed ahead of monsoon at Kasturba Nagar in Adyar on Tuesday. A doctor, who was travelling in the car, suffered minor injuries in the mishap.
A tweet on ANI said, "A car fell into a pit that was dug on Tuesday for stormwater drainage construction at Kasturba Nagar, Adyar in Chennai. A doctor, who was travelling in the car, got minor injuries."
"The car was later brought out of the pit by Traffic Police," the tweet said.

The video that went viral on social media also showed the doctor who was driving the car being unable to detect the pit. Soon as he neared the pit, the doctor lost control of the car and steered into it. As a result, the car fell into the pit diagonally with wheels above the pit. The upturn vehicle also made it difficult for the driver to come out of it.
However, hours of struggle later, the vehicle was removed from the pit and the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the incident has been reported amid Tamil Nadu Water Resources department intensifying flood mitigation works to avoid monsoon-related mishaps in Chennai and to augment the water storage before monsoon.
The officials have also been giving additional attention to areas including Pallikaranai, Medavakkam, Madippakam and other areas that were inundated with water during the floods last year.
