Chennai: The Dalits of the country can become a President of the country, but never a Prime Minister, said Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan during the celebrations held in Salem for Social Justice Day, and his birthday, on Friday.

Speaking at the event, the VCK chief accused the Union government of secluding people from oppressed classes and said that the Centre is already struggling to handle him since he is educated.

He also said that if all the people from depressed classes get educated then they will rule the country instead of BJP.

Thirumavalavan said that he received 301 marks in his board exams and the Centre's already unable to even handle him for studying and coming forward by registering footsteps in the political sphere. If everyone from Dalit community had studied, then even BJP would not be in the Centre, he said.

Stating that the President of India is from an oppressed class, the VCK chief challenged the Prime Minister to make the President of India the PM for one day. He said a Dalit can become an MLA, an MP and even a President, but he cannot become a prime minister since the BJP will not allow them to become one.

Later, talking about reservation, Thirumavalavan said: "If you want to know why we are demanding reservation then understand that my father has not studied, my mother has not studied and their parents could not study. So in this backdrop we have studied and come forward in life. So even if some students receive 90%, even our 40% equals the same."
