In a horrifying incident reported from Tamil Nadu, a transman burnt alive his childhood classmate in Chennai under the pretext of surprising her on her birthday eve on Saturday, said the police on Monday, according to PTI. The suspect identified as Vetrimaran was arrested and remanded to judicial custody, they added.
The accused, a trans man who had changed his name from Pandi Maheswari to Vetrimaran, blindfolded, chained and burnt R Nandhini alive, under the pretext of surprising her on her birthday eve on Saturday, at Thalambur near Kelambakkam, Chennai’s southern suburb, according to the police.
The victim, a 25-year-old software engineer from Madurai, working in the state capital did not suspect his intentions, as Vetrimaran said he wanted to surprise Nandhini ahead of her birthday, the report added. Nandhini was residing at her relative's house in Chennai.

As per the investigation, Pandi Maheswari, 26 and Nandhini studied in the same school in Madhurai.
The two had falled out after Nadhini refused to get into a relationship with Vetrimaran after his sex change despite his fervent apppeals, reported Times of India.
But Nandhini continued her friendship on humanitarian grounds, the PTI report added.
After completing her BSc in information technology, Nandhini had got a job in Chennai eight months back and was staying in the city with her uncle, as per the TOI report.

On Saturday, the accsued called and asked Nandhini to spend a few hours with him. They met and bought new clothes but while on way bakc home, stopped at a deserted spot, the TOI report stated.
He then used chains to bind her hands and feet and told her it was just for fun.
He refused to release Nandhini despite he repeated pleas and instead slashed her neck and arms with a blade before pouring a bottle petrol on her and burning her alive.
