Chennai: Three persons were severely injured after a crane toppled at a construction site and the iron rods it was carrying fell onto an MTC bus on Mount Poonamallee Road in Ramapuram on Tuesday. All of them have been rushed to a hospital and treatment is on.
The three injured persons included a crane operator and the bus crew.
According to a report on The Hindu, a senior official of City Traffic Police said, the crane which was transporting heavy items including metal rods on a Metrorail construction site toppled suddenly and the rod it was carrying fell onto an MTC bus approaching from Kundrathur on Mount Poonamallee Road.

The injured were identified as Ayyadurai, Bhoopalan of the bus crew and crane operator Ranjith.
Later, Koyambedu Traffic Investigation police registered a case. The investigations are on.

The incident reportedly took place at 5 am. The steel roads were bundled as a pack and lifted by the crane. However, a cable snapped and the remaining rods too fell on the MTC bus, said a report on DT Next.
On August 8, a two-wheeler rider sustained a severe head injury and succumbed after a signboard pillar fell on him while he was riding a two-wheeler on GST Road.
When the man was riding near Alandur metro station, an MTC bus lost control and rammed into the signboard resulting in the signboard to fall on the man's two-wheeler. Another man was also injured in the mishap.
In the impact, the windscreen of the MTC bus was also damaged. However, no one was injured on the bus.
The eyewitnesses said that the bus was overspeeding and the driver lost control of the bus while he was turning in a curve.
