Chennai: A stalker attacked and injured a young woman with a glass bottle after she rejected his advances near Kilpauk Metro Station in Chennai. Following the incident, the police arrested the accused on Tuesday. 


According to a report on The Hindu, a 24-year-old man, Naveen, who claimed to be a personnel in the Navy, got connected with the woman from Thiruvananthapuram on social media six months ago. Recently, the woman who completed her hotel management course came to Chennai for training at a hotel in Kilpauk. 


The accused who reportedly got to know about this started to make advances and continued to harass her. When he proposed, the woman began to avoid him. 


Against this backdrop, when the woman was on her way to her accommodation on Monday at 8.20 pm, Naveen followed and confronted her. 


Both of them soon got into an argument. In a fit of rage, the accused suddenly pulled out a glass beer bottle, attacked her in the face and fled the scene. The people who were nearby immediately rushed the woman to a private hospital on Poonamalle Highway.

The doctors reportedly administered 20 stitches on the left ear and cheek, said The News Minute. The woman was also discharged after two days of treatment. 


Based on the complaint from the woman, the police arrested the accused under charges of attempt to murder and sexual harassment.


The police also said that the man injured her face in order to ruin her chances of becoming an air hostess. 


It may be recalled that a woman Sathya Priya was murdered by her stalker on October 13. The stalker reportedly pushed the woman in front of a moving train after an argument at St Thomas Mount Railway Station. The accused had been stalking the woman for over a year.
