Chennai: The Chennai police arrested a 25-year-old man for stealing laptops of students at medical college hostels to take 'revenge' against his ex-girlfriend in Chennai. 


According to a report on The Indian Express, H1 Washermanpet police received a complaint from Ruthresh, a student studying second year in Stanley Medical College Hospital, that his laptop went missing from his room on April 8. 


Based on the complaint, the police combed CCTV footage of the hostel. While analysing the visuals, police found a miscreant boarding an auto with a bag from the hostel. 


The police tracked the auto and arrested the accused from Semmencherry on Saturday.

During interrogation, the police found out that the accused identified as Tamil Selvan stole 31 laptops and had been selling them in black markets. 


They also found out that Tamil Selvan had fake identity cards from colleges and had been involved in stealing in other parts of the country including Delhi and Kerala. The police remanded him and sent him to 15 days of judicial custody.

S Yamuna, Washermanpet police station inspector said, Tamil Selvan told us that he started selling laptops from medical college hostels after his breakup with his girlfriend. 


However, the inspector said that the statement given by him cannot be completely relied upon since Tamil Selvan had theft pending cases to crimes committed at a young age. He also lost his parents at a young age.
