Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president KS Alagiri slammed BJP-led government for increasing petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder prices on a regular basis.

After flagging off a protest rally condemning the price hike in Coimbatore on Monday, Alagiri said, people are silent now but when they react it will hit BJP hard.

The Union government has levied taxes worth Rs 26 lakh crore on fuel and LPG cylinders and that's the reason for the drastic increase in the price of the products, he said.

When asked about the silence of people on the hike, Alagiri said, the people of Tamil Nadu who found it difficult to tolerate AIADMK's governance have given the opportunity to DMK. Similarly, Modi's government was formed seven years back so the people won't tolerate his government and will soon make a good decision in 3 years.

Further, Alagiri condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on making Hindi an alternative to English said, Shah is trying to destroy Indian Constitution by thrusting Hindi upon non-Hindi-speaking states.

Alagiri said, Amit Shah during the 37th meeting of the parliamentary official language committee said that 70% of the Cabinet's agenda was prepared in Hindi and it said that non-Hindi speaking states should adopt Hindi.

This agenda of the union cabinet is against the Indian Constitution, he said.
