Days after AIADMK leader D Jayakumar declared that there was no alliance between BJP and AIADMK, Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai said that there was no problem between the two parties. Annamalai also said that he does not have any problem with any AIADMK leader. Annamalai said that there was a "common thread" that linked like-minded parties in the NDA and that was PM Modi.
Those who accepted his candidature for the post of PM in Lok Sabha polls 2024 are in the NDA alliance, he said.
"Does the AIADMK accept it? Yes," Annamalai answered, as per PTI.
Those who have accepted PM Modi's leadership should join hands, he said.
The BJP leader said that AIADMK and BJP are divergent and they have different ideological standpoints in certain things so it was not a big deal, he said. "What is important is the common thread, which is Prime Minister Modi and the AIADMK stands for a united nation with a strong leadership to lead it," he said.
In his statement on Annadurai, Annamalai said that he did not speak ill of the Dravidian icon and late CM CN Annadurai. He said that he only recalled an incident from 1956 and there was no question of apology.
He said that even DMK leader Karunanidhi had recalled the incident while he served as the CM of the state in 1998.
On Monday, AIADMK leader Jayakumar said, "BJP is not in alliance with AIADMK. We will decide about the alliance during the elections only. This is not my personal view. This is our party's stand. BJP cadres want an alliance with the AIADMK but Annamalai (TN BJP President K Annamalai) doesn't want an alliance. He always criticises our leaders. He is unfit to be BJP state president."
