Chennai: J Jayavardhan, the son of former AIADMK Minister Jayakumar, called the arrest of his father abuse of power. He also alleged that it was a false case lodged against his father. However, on Monday, former Minister Jayakumar was arrested from his residence at Foreshore Estate for alleging that a DMK worker was involved in bogus voting and took off his shirt during the local body polls on Saturday.


After the arrest, Jayakumar's wife talking to reporters said. "The police barged into our home when only my son and I were there at the house. My son tried to accompany the police but they made him get out of the vehicle.”


Jayavardhan said, "The police barged the home only with an intention to take my father away. Nearly 40 police personnel came to pick him up."


"However, this is just a false case. This is also complete political abuse of power," The AIADMK leader's son was quoted as saying by ABP Nadu.

Moreover, the AIADMK party condemned the arrest of the former Minister. In an official statement, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami said, "The arrest of former Minister Jayakumar just comes as a reminder of how the DMK will be involved in the slaughter of democracy during the counting of votes. The AIADMK will not be afraid of any such acts."


"Hence, all the party workers should be attentive and perform their democratic duty," they said.


The former Tamil Nadu CM tweeted that the arrest is highly reprehensible.



Meanwhile, the former Minister who was produced before St George Town magistrate has been told to stay in judicial custody till March 7. On the other hand, the legal team of the former Minister has decided to move a bail petition on Tuesday.
