Chennai: AIADMK Interim General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami expelled former ex-Minister and senior leader Panruti Ramachandran for anti-party activities on Tuesday. The announcement came after former TN CM O Panneerselvam appointed Panruti as the political adviser of AIADMK.


In a release as per ANI, Palaniswami on Tuesday said, “AIADMK sr leader & ex-minister Panruti Ramachandran expelled from the party for party unlawful activities & crossing party lines.”

The release came after O Panneerselvam issued an “announcement” in the AIADMK letter pad appointing Panruti Ramachandran as political advisor of AIADMK. OPS also requested AIADMK cadre to give their full support for the political advisor.

Earlier, Ramachandran also issued statements against EPS. In an interview to Times of India, Ramachandran called Palaniswami's leadership a failure. He also said that AIADMK will become extinct if EPS continues his leadership due to the defeats in Lok Sabha, assembly and local body elections.


He said Palaniswami did not have experience or maturity. 


Meanwhile, Panruti earlier met Sasikala and OPS.


Panruti Ramachandran entered politics after meeting DMK founder CN Annadurai. He held various portfolios in the former CMs M Karunanidhi and MG Ramachandran's cabinet. He served as former deputy leader of the Opposition. He had contested and won six times from Panruti since 1967. He served in PMK and DMDK for a short while. However, after Jayalalithaa called the founding members of AIADMK back into the party he joined AIADMK again in 2014.
