Chennai: The AIADMK party headquarters was reopened in Royapettah almost 10 days after Tamil Nadu Revenue Department sealed the party HQ after a clash broke out between the camps of AIADMK leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam.

The party office was reopened after Madras High Court on Wednesday told to hand over the keys of AIADMK office to Edappadi K Palaniswami, the interim general secretary of the party.

On July 11, police personnel and a revenue division officer among other officials reached the AIADMK office on Monday noon and told OPS supporters to leave the HQ. The AIADMK office was then sealed under sections of CrPC. The AIADMK cadre was also warned that they would be imprisoned for two years if they try to trespass on the premises.

The issues started after OPS and his supporters tried to enter the party office while a meeting organised by EPS camp was ongoing in a marriage hall. Following this, the supporters of EPS and OPS clashed against each other, hurled stones and attacked each other. The clash resulted in several cadre suffering injuries.

However, OPS' supporters still outnumbered and they broke the office and made way for OPS. Against this backdrop, police department decided to clear the cadre and seal the building.

On Wednesday, the case regarding the sealing of the party office came for hearing before Madras HC. The bench of Justice Sathish Kumar refused to permit AIADMK cadre into the office for one month to avoid any untoward incidents and told police to provide security.
