Chennai: A day after the inauguration of Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai on Thursday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested his help for conducting Asian Beach Games 2024 in Chennai.
A release from Chief Minister's office said, "TN CM Stalin in his letter stated that Tamil Nadu government's request has been accepted during a policy level discussion in Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) at Tashkent on May 6 for conducting the beach games in Chennai in January 2024."
"Hence, the CM has sought the Union government's grant of free passage for the participants of these games along with guarantees," it said.

Further, the release quoting CM's letter said, the CM has urged the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to expedite the process of giving clearance before September.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also reportedly thanked PM Modi for extending his support and participating in the 44th Chess Olympiad hosted by the Tamil Nadu government.

The 44th Chess Olympiad which started on July 28 is expected to be held till August 10. On Thursday, the inauguration of the event took place in Nehru Indoor Stadium. However, the remaining tournament is scheduled to be held in Mamallapuram.
