Chennai: Actor Vijay petitioned the Madras High Court to expunge the remarks made by Justice SM Subramaniam in July 2021 while he was hearing a case moved by the actor requesting to exempt him from paying entry tax for his luxury car. The actor sought to the judge to expunge after making the submission for paying Rs 32 lakh as entry tax for his imported Rolls Royce Ghost in 2012.
According to a report on ABP Nadu, Justice SM Subramanian made harsh criticism in the Court against actor Vijay in July 2021 and ordered the actor to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
During the hearing, the judge said that tax evasion is anti-national and unconstitutional so the actors who are portraying themselves as champions of social justice should not resort to corrupt practices.

Following this, actor Vijay upset with the remarks, moved the Madras High Court seeking to expunge the harsh remark and sought to set aside the fine of Rs 1 lakh. The counsel of the actor argued the judge who labeled Vijay as anti-national and the remarks can lead to negative publicity.
Based on this, a bench of Justices M Duraiswamy and R Hemalatha stayed the previous order and canceled the fine of Rs 1 lakh. They told the actor to pay the entry tax alone.
On October 25 after Vijay paid the entry tax, Vijay's counsel insisted that the judge should expunge the remark. Following this, a two-bench judge heard the case and reserved the order for a later date.
