Chennai: A pavement dweller was killed after a car in which actor T Rajendar was travelling ran over him last week. After the incident, Selvam, the driver of T Rajendar, was arrested by the police. 


In the CCTV footage of the incident doing the rounds on social media on Wednesday, a pavement driver was crawling in the middle of a T-shape junction at Elango Salai-Poes Road in Teyanmpet when T Rajendar's Innova car neared the pavement dweller from the opposite direction. The driver of the car attempted to turn the Innova away from him but failed and mowed him.


According to a report on The News Minute, T Rajendar who was in the car rushed the 58-year-old Munusamy to Royapettah General Hospital. However, the elderly man succumbed to his injuries.

Further, police said that the driver Selvam was temporarily driving the car on that day. 


The police then registered a case under section 304 (a) (Causing death by negligence), Section 377 (Causing hurt to a person by doing any act rashly) and Section 279 (rash driving) of Indian Penal Code and arrested the driver. 


The driver has been remanded in judicial custody.

Munusamy was crawling on the road on the fatal day as he had recently suffered a leg injury while lifting a manhole cover. 


The incident took place on March 18 when Rajendar was taking his grandson to hospital and the video of the accident went viral on social media.
