West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday addressed the media following her meeting with Governor CV Ananda Bose, sharing details about an incident earlier in the day. Banerjee sustained a forehead injury during her road journey from Burdwan to Kolkata when her convoy applied sudden brakes to avoid a collision with another vehicle.
Despite feeling cold and anticipating a fever, she asserted she would not visit the hospital, stating, "Police will do its work. I am feeling cold, I am going home," news agency ANI quoted her as saying.
Earlier in the day, Banerjee dismissed the possibility of an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.
“I had no discussions with the Congress party or anyone else. We had given a proposal which they refused. Since then our party has decided that we will fight alone in West Bengal,” Banerjee told reporters.
Expressing displeasure, she mentioned that the Congress party had not informed her about the entry of their 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' into the state.
“Even as a matter of courtesy, they didn’t tell me that they were coming to my State. I am part of I.N.D.I.A bloc,” she said.
The Congress yatra is scheduled to enter West Bengal in the next few days.
Banerjee, as the leader of a secular party, stated that she would decide her course of action after the elections.
These comments by the Chief Minister followed statements from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who mentioned ongoing talks with the TMC regarding seat-sharing in West Bengal. Gandhi emphasized his good relations with Mamata Banerjee.
In recent weeks, leaders from both the Congress and the TMC have exchanged criticism. While the TMC accused the Congress of unrealistic bargaining, the Congress asserted that the TMC needed their support in the elections.
The TMC offered two seats to the Congress, while the state-level Congress leadership insisted on six. Currently, the Congress has two MPs elected from Baharampur and Malda Dakshin, and West Bengal sends 42 MPs to the Lok Sabha.
