YouTuber Shikha Metray, a.k.a. 'Kuwari Begum' was arrested by the Ghaziabad police on Thursday over accusations of promoting a purported video on methods of promoting child abuse, said the police. The YouTuber was arrested after an FIR was reigstered against her based on a complaint by a social worker, said a police official.
"On the basis of a complaint received at Kaushambi police station, a case has been registered under relevant sections. The said woman has been arrested. Further legal proceedings are underway," Assistant Police Commissioner Ritesh Tripathi said in a post on X.
The FIR was filed against Metray on June 12 based on a complaint by activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, reported India Today. Bhardwaj had flagged the purported contest on her X handle and called for for police action against the content creator.
In her complaint to the Police Commissionerate office, Bhardwaj said that the YouTuber was running a gaming channel where she was promoting sexual acts against minors and newborn infants.
'It has come to my knowledge that a female You Tuber running a gaming channel named Kuwari begum is pormoting and encouraging sexual acts against minors and newborn infants," read the complaint, the copy of which Bhardwaj posted on her X account.
Social media sleuths were quick to dig the YouTuber's background — after her video was widely shared on social media — uncovering that she graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Delhi and works in a clothing and apparel business.
