The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is taking steps to equip teachers with digital skills to enhance their efficiency and productivity in the education system. As per the Chief Minister's directives, the Basic Education Department is working on a new module called 'Digital Registers' on the Prerna portal, designed to replace manual paperwork with digital methods.
Under this initiative, the State Project Office, Samagra Shiksha, Uttar Pradesh, has developed the Digital Registers module, providing training to teachers on its usage. Once trained, teachers will be able to smartly update their daily tasks related to the school using their mobile devices, eliminating the need for manual registers.
The government plans to digitise 12 registers initially, with the intention of implementing real-time online updates later. The department will soon release guidelines for teacher training.
To ensure authenticity, Dr Pawan Kumar, Director of the State Educational Research and Training Council, has directed that all registers in schools will be archived at the school level before the full implementation of digital registers. After the digital registers are in effect, they will be reviewed by various officials, including Block Education Officers, District Basic Education Officers, Chief Development Officers, District Magistrates, and state-level officials through the Prerna app. The data entered in the digital registers via the new Prerna portal module will be considered certified.
The move is expected to save time for teachers, enabling them to focus on delivering quality education to students. Registers like attendance, entry, class-wise student attendance, Mid-Day Meal (MDM), integrated free material distribution, and stock will be digitized, along with those for income and expenditure, check issuance, meetings, inspections, correspondence, student count, libraries, and sports.
This digital transformation will lead to increased transparency and eliminate the possibility of data manipulation. Former Chief Secretary, Deepak Kumar, had previously issued directives for the digitization of registers, emphasizing that the Digital Register App would enable teachers and principals to upload information from their mobile devices. Block Education Officers (BEO), Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Cluster Development Officers (CDO), District Magistrates (DM), and state-level officials will be granted access to view this information on the Prerna app.
