New Delhi: A 20-year-old domestic help who was allegedly held hostage and assaulted by her employer in Noida for nearly two months opened up about her ordeal after a video of her getting assaulted went viral.

The victim identified as Anita told NDTV that the family members at Noida's Cleo County society in Sector 121 beat her and even threatened to kill her for eating some jaggery. A CCTV clip from the building's elevator had showed the 20-year-old woman being forcibly dragged inside.

"She used to beat me every day, douse me with cold water," Anita told NDTV. "On December 26, I had eaten a bar of jaggery, so I was beaten with slippers. Then she threatened to set me on fire and throw me down from the roof," she said.

Anita revealed that she tied several dupattas end-to-end to be able to climb down from the fourth floor. But the residential society's guard caught her.

"The guard stopped me and called madam. She hit me and dragged me upstairs, choked my throat," said Anita.

She further informed that her contract had expired in October, but they refused to release her. She had been working for the family since April. "I wanted to go home," she told NDTV.

Noida Police Lodges Complaint

According to news agency PTI, the Noida Police said that the employer, Shefali Koul, an advocate, has been booked under sections 344 (illegal confinement beyond 10 days), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insult) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The help's father lodged the complaint with the Phase 3 police station and said that his daughter had a six-month work contract with Koul which ended on October 31.

"After the contract ended, my daughter wanted to leave her place but she did not let her go. She held my daughter hostage at her home where she assaulted her and hurled abuses at her," the complainant alleged, as quoted by PTI.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Saad Miya Khan said, "An FIR has been lodged at the Phase 3 police station. Evidence is being collected and further legal action would be taken accordingly."
