Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state will host the 6th World Congress on Disaster Management in Dehradun from November 28 to December 1 to deliberate on modern technologies for disaster risk mitigation. Dhami on Tuesday said the congress will see the participation of disaster management experts from different countries and across India. There will be brainstorming among experts from across the country and the world in the field of disaster management


Dhami said that the  efforts being made at the global level to solve the disaster related challenges of Uttarakhand and other Himalayan regions will gain momentum. "Disaster risk reduction had emerged as a major issue in the recently concluded G20 Summit and the forthcoming World Congress on Disaster Management is being held to discuss modern methods to take on the challenge," Dhami said.


Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has been made the brand ambassador of the event. Dhami held a press conference on Tuesday regarding 6th World Congress on Disaster Management  at the Media Center in Secretariat, Dehradun.  During this, Amitabh Bachchan's video message for the World Congress on Disaster Management  was also released .


He informed that the 6th World Congress on Disaster Management will be organised by the state government in Dehradun at Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, D.M.I.C.S.  It is being organised by Hyderabad and Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST).


"Natural disasters occur in Uttarakhand every year, therefore organising an event like this in the state is necessary so that experts working in the field of disaster management all over the world share their experiences with us and help us towards better preparedness," Dhami said.


An invitation will also be extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister to attend the conference, Dhami said. Heads of the Indian Space Research Organisation, Defense Research and Development Organisation, Atomic Energy Commission, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government of India as well as representatives of leading institutions of the world, United Nations, climate experts from India and abroad have been specially invited.
