New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's Uttarakhand chief, Madan Kaushik denied media reports of cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat’s resignation and said, “All is well."
Earlier today it was speculated that Rawat may join the Congress party. The ANI quoted one of its sources from Congress as saying that the minister held several meetings with Congress MLA Pritam Singh in the recent past.
Rawat was in a rift with the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over “government inaction” for a medical college that Rawat proposed for his constituency, Kotdwar. Rawat had walked out of the state cabinet meeting regarding the same after which it was being speculated that the minister may resign from the cabinet.
However, Kaushik dismissed reports of Rawat’s resignation as “rumours” while talking to a television news channel, reported PTI.
Along with Rawat, resignation of another BJP MLA Umesh Sharma Kau was also being talked about but his son Gaurav Sharma soon denied any such speculation.
Kau was assigned with the task to dissuade Rawat, saying that the cabinet minister’s grievance was addressed and that no one was going anywhere. “His proposal for a medical college in Kotdwar has been accepted and he has also been assured that the budget for the project will be released by Monday,” Kau said.
When he was asked whether Rawat had agreed not to resign, Kau said, “no one was going anywhere.” He said the issue has been settled with the help of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leader Anil Baluni and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
