New Delhi: A protest broke out after a woman was shot dead in a clash between Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad police and the people of Bharatpur village in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. The police had gone there to arrest a criminal carrying reward of Rs 50,000.
Speaking about the clash, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Moradabad Shalabh Mathur said that five UP police personnel sustained injuries and they are undergoing treatment. The Uttarakhand Police has confirmed that a woman has died in the incident as reported by ANI.
He also said that three police personnel received gunshot injuries and three personnel were injured in the incident. One of our police vehicles was torched; three police weapons missing.
According to the Uttarakhand Police, people started protesting after a woman was shot dead in a clash that broke out between UP's Moradabad police and the people of Bharatpur village in Udham Singh Nagar. Police had gone there to arrest a criminal carrying reward of Rs 50,000, as reported by the news agency ANI.
Three personnel of the Uttar Pradesh Police were reportedly injured in the clash. One of the injured is in critical condition, UP Police told Uttarakhand Police as reported by ANI. “We will take fair and legal action in this matter,” ANI quoted Uttarakhand Police as saying.
An FIR has been registered by the Moradabad Police invoking several sections of IPC including rioting, harbouring offenders, resisting arrest, attempting to murder, dacoity, causing hurt to public servants & criminal conspiracy. One of the accused was booked by name(wanted criminal) and 35 unknowns are booked as well.
“Our team had gone to search for the wanted criminal. They were taken hostage and were fired upon. Two of our personnel are critically injured and they are undergoing treatment. We are investigating the matter. We are in contact with the Uttarakhand Police”, ANI reported Bareilly ADG Rajkumar as saying.
