Uttarakhand Accident: At least 8 people were killed after a tempo traveller fell into a gorge along the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in Rudraprayag, Uttrakhand on Saturday. The vehicle rolled down into the Alaknanda.






According to Inspector General of Garhwal Karan Singh Nagnyal, the tempo traveller was going from Noida in UP to Rudraprayag. "It fell into a 150-200-metre deep gorge. As many as seven bodies were fished out. Nine people were being rushed to the hospital, when another casualty occurred. The driver is very critically injured." 






It is not clear how many people were onboard the vehicle. Police, SDRF and locals are engaged in search-and-rescue operations.






Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow on the tragedy. He said local administration and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were engaged in relief and rescue operations. "The injured were taken to the nearest medical centre. The district magistrate has been instructed to investigate the incident," Dhami said, according to a Hindustan Times report.


“I pray to God to grant the souls of the departed a place in his feet and provide strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense pain. I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured,” CM Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X.
