New Delhi: Three people, including a woman, lost their lives while eleven others sustained injuries when their vehicle plunged into a gorge near Duwakotidhar along the Gaja-Dandachali-Chamba motor road in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Sunday, news agency PTI reported.


The incident, which took place around 9 am, left two passengers, Dharamveer Aswal (45) and Ritika (22), dead on the spot, with another passenger, Jagveer Singh Rawat (40), succumbing to injuries at a Gaja hospital, Narendra Nagar SHO, Gopal Dutt Bhatt said.


The car, carrying a total of 14 passengers and en route to Chamba, veered off the road before falling into the deep gorge, Bhatt said. While one injured person continues to receive medical attention at a Gaja hospital, the remaining casualties have been admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, police added, reported the news agency.


In a separate incident, a family of four people, including three women, were killed in an early morning road mishap on the Haridwar highway on Sunday, PTI reported.


The accident occurred near the railway gate at Rasulpur in Kanth police station area along the Haridwar highway when an out-of-control SUV collided with a pole as the driver reportedly fall asleep at the wheel, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sandeep Kumar Meena said.


The accident took place around 4:00 am. The deceased have been identified as Aarti Rastogi (45), Yash Rastogi (22), Ashika Rastogi (18), and Sangeeta Rastogi (35), all residents of Dehradun, while two people, identified as Atul Rastogi and his younger sister Manvi Rastogi, are hospitalised in critical condition, police added.


Earlier on Saturday, two minors among three were killed in a road accident on the Delhi Meerut Expressway, PTI reported.


The incident took place when eleven students from Amroha were on their way to Jamia Millia Islamia University to sit for an entrance exam for admission in class 6 when their car rammed into a truck on the expressway and another truck hit the vehicle from behind, police said.
