The Uttar Pradesh Police has demoted Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kripa Shankar Kannaujiya to the rank of constable after he was caught in a hotel with a female constable three years ago.

Formerly serving as Circle Officer (CO) Bighapur in Unnao, he has now been reassigned to the 26th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion in Gorakhpur. Kannaujiya's troubles began when he went 'missing' after taking leave in July 2021.

According to the report of India Today, Kanaujia requested leave citing family reasons, but instead of going home, he went into a hotel in Kanpur along with a female constable. During this duration, he switched off both his private and official mobile numbers, which raised suspicion.

His wife, concerned about his sudden disappearance, reached out to the SP Unnao for help. The situation intensified when a surveillance team found that the mobile network of Kanaujia had gone silent after he arrived at the Kanpur hotel.

Unnao Police quickly located him at the hotel, where they found him with the female constable. The CCTV videos confirmed their presence together, which provided key evidence for the investigation.

The incident was reported to the government, which, after a thorough review, recommended demoting Kripa Shankar Kanaujia to the rank of constable. Later, the ADG Administration issued an order to enforce this decision, leading to the demotion of the once-prominent officer.

Extra-Marital Affairs Between Constable And His Colleague

In 2021, another incident of extra-marital affairs was reported in Mumbai where the constable and his colleague both were romantically involved. They both were married and had children.

As per the report in Times of India, the colleague of the constable alleged that he had asked her to divorce her husband and promised to marry her after he divorced his wife. When the constable's wife found their affair, she was outraged, leading the constable to avoid meeting his colleague for a while. However, they eventually resumed meeting at various locations and engaged in a physical relationship. But later the female colleague claimed that it was coerced.

On May 20, 2021, the colleague visited the constable while he was on duty in the suburbs. His wife saw them together and confronted them. Despite this, the two continued to meet. On May 26, the constable's wife informed the colleague's husband about the affair. Following a quarrel, her husband left and did not return, resulting in the filing of the FIR on May 28.
