The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is aiming to simplify public access to the judicial system with Lok Adalats in a move to expedite the resolution of pending cases and ease individuals from the complexities of legal proceedings. UP State Legal Services Authority in its report highlighted that during the years 2022-23 and 2023-24, six phases of Lok Adalats have been conducted in the state, resulting in the resolution of 3.30 crore cases.


These Lok Adalats have settled matters related to marriage, family, and bank recovery.


The report from the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority underscores the emphasis placed on providing speedy solutions and redressal in cases of matrimonial disputes and family conflicts from the year 2022. Notably, efforts are directed at achieving settlements at the pre-litigation stage and fostering consensus between the parties involved, it mentioned.


Specialised Lok Adalats have been established to exclusively address cases pertaining to marital and family disputes. Moreover, Help Desks have been set up in civil courts across the state.


The report reveals that on March 12, 2022, a Lok Adalat successfully resolved 635 cases related to family and marital disputes. Similarly, on May 14, 2022, 849 cases were resolved, followed by 936 cases on August 13, 2022, 1244 cases on November 12, 2022, 1154 cases on February 11, 2023, and 814 cases on May 21, 2023. In total, an impressive 5632 cases have been resolved from May 2022 to May 2023.

Resolving Bank Recovery Cases


The report highlights a special Lok Adalat session organised on March 17 and 18 this year, as advised by the Patron-in-Chief and Executive Chairperson of the UP State Legal Services Authority. This initiative was a response to the rising number of bank recovery cases in the state. The session yielded significant success, resolving a total of 27,782 cases related to bank recoveries and delivering swift resolutions.


Furthermore, the report acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the state government and the judicial department in raising awareness among the public regarding all Lok Adalats held in the state. These efforts include disseminating information about the scheduling of these sessions and educating individuals about their significance in seeking expeditious justice.
