An Uttar Pradesh Police constable was arrested on Sunday for allegedly threatening to kidnap and kill a family member unless he was paid Rs 1 crore. The incident took place in Mathura, where accused Aziz Gautam is posted in the district prison.


On August 5, Aziz placed a call to a family member, Ramkumar Gautam, and allegedly threatened to kidnap and kill his 21-year-old son Anuj, Jaint SHO Ashwani Kumar told PTI. 


The accused, who is a resident of Madhera village in the Jaint police station area, hatched the plan when he came to know about a property deal that had earned Ramkumar Rs 2 crore, the report said.


Aziz was arrested near his village on August 11 with a country-made pistol and cartridges. Three accomplices were arrested earlier in Chhatapur in Madhya Pradesh.  


When A Cop 'Attempted Abduction' In Punjab


In June, a Punjab Police constable and his accomplices allegedly abducted a man and threatened to implicate him in a drug smuggling case to extort Rs 30,000 from his family, reported The Times Of India. The crime reportedly occurred in Ludhiana.


The victim, Som Prakash, a resident of Kot Gangu Rai village in Koom Kalan area, alleged that he was sitting at the entrance of his village when three men in a car came near him on June 9. The accused allegedly abducted him and took him to Ghulal village. They claimed that they were the staff of Khanna police and threatened to implicate him in a drug case.


According to the report, police in Koom Kalan subsequently arrested constable Jagdish, who was absent from duty since June 1. 


The IPC sections invoked included 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), with the accused booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act as well.
