A Class 10 student was allegedly gang-raped while returning after taking part in Chhath Puja with her family in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, news agency IANS reported, citing police. As per the police officials, two people were arrested in the case. The accused have been identified as Deepak and Upendra.


According to police, the accused kidnapped the survivor while she was returning from Chhath Puja, took her to a deserted house, and gang-raped her, IANS reported. The incident came to light after the 12-year-old brother of the survivor found her missing and started searching for her.


According to the police, the boy reached the crime spot, where he was thrashed by the accused. When he raised an alarm, a few locals came to his rescue, but by then both accused had escaped. Superintendent of Police (North), Arun Kumar, said, "Both the accused have now been arrested," as quoted by IANS.


Later late evening on Monday, the family of the girl informed the police when her condition deteriorated due to heavy bleeding, as reported by PTI. According to the police, the victim was then rushed her to Bansgaon community health centre from where she was referred to the district hospital.


Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376D (gang rape) of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, as reported by PTI. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, SP (North) Arun Kumar Singh said that police has arrested both the accused and sent them to jail. The girl is undergoing treatment at the hospital, the police informed.


In another incident, a 20-year-old rape survivor was hacked to death allegedly by the accused, who was out on bail, and his three brothers after she refused to withdraw her complaint, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday, citing a police official. The incident took place in Derha in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, the official said.
