Four people were killed while two others were injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun when a pickup van ran over them while the six were resting under a tree in a village within the district, on Saturday. As per a PTI report, the tragic incident triggered protests from villagers and family members of the victims. The driver was caught by the locals and handed over to the police.


District Magistrate of Budaun, Manoj Kumar, while speaking about the deceased said that they were among the people who were resting under a tree in Paigam Bhikampur village when a pickup van “lost control and ran over them”.


"They were among a group of people resting under a tree in Paigam Bhikampur village of the district when a pickup van lost control and ran over them. Two others were injured and have been admitted to hospital," Kumar was quoted by PTI. 


He identified the deceased as Prakash, 42, Brajpal, 35, Dhanpal, 55, and Gyan Singh, 40.  


Kumar said the locals and family members protested and demanded swift action against the van driver. He said that the protesters tried to stop the police from taking the bodies for postmortem examination. 


"We are in touch with the locals and have assured them of taking suitable action against the accused,' he added.


Superintendent of Police Alok Priyadarshi told PTI that the bodies were sent for postmortem examination in the evening. In order to ensure law and order, police have been deployed in the village.

Mother-Son Duo Killed In Road Accident


On Saturday, in another incident, five people were killed, including a 5-year-old boy, in UP's Firozabad, after a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus collided with an autorickshaw. Meanwhile, six people travelling in the autorickshaw were injured in the accident.


Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sarvesh Kumar Mishra said three people died on the spot, he identified them as, Sapna, 30, Anil, 28, and Kartik, 5. Two other passengers died in the hospital, they were identified as Renu (Kartik's mother), 26, and the auto driver Monu, 22.


Kumar said the injured were rushed to the hospital and the bus driver was detained.
