A local-level Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was allegedly attacked in the Bansdih Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district for speaking in favour of a rival camp during a panchayat meet. The general secretary of BJP’s Maniyar mandal, Ajit Singh, visited the Sultanpur village on Sunday to attend a panchayat related to a land dispute when he was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon. The police have arrested Akhilesh Bind and Ramesh Bind in connection with the attack, as reported by news agency PTI. Singh suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack and was admitted to a district hospital.
The two men were arrested on Monday and the weapon used to attack Singh was also seized. After the arrest they said the attacked Singh because because he spoke in favour of the rival camp.
Superintendent of Police (Ballia) S Anand said an FIR under provisions of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Akhilesh Bind and Ramesh Bind on the basis of Singh's complaint, reported PTI.

In April of this year, a BJP leader's son was attacked by six assailants according to an India Today report. The accused had hurled bombs at him in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj when he was visiting his aunt. Vidhan Singh, son of BJP leader Vijayalakshmi Chandel, Singh was accompanied by a friend, they both however, managed to escape unhurt.
The act by the assailants was caught on video, which showed masked men in two bikes hurling bombs at the car’s windshield when Singh and his companion were inside the car. The assailants fled the scene before the police arrived, reported the news outlet.
