Four children from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao drowned on Saturday while bathing in the Ganga near the Chandan Ghat. According to a PTI report, Circle Officer (CO) Sonam Singh stated that the children were from two different families that lived on the banks of the Ganga.
Initially, five kids from the two families decided to take a bath, which is when the incident occurred. Four of them swam into deep waters. The other child, who was bathing on the banks of the river, was rescued by the locals present there, Singh told PTI.
The CO said the four children were taken out of the river with the help of boatmen and rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared all of them dead. The victims were identified as Nazia Bano (10), Raj Babu (7), Munajir (10), and Riyaz (8). According to locals, Nazia and Raj were siblings and Munajir and Riyaz were cousins.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the children were rushed to a nursing home first, from where they were taken to Kanshiram Memorial Trauma Centre in Kanpur where all four were declared dead on arrival. Relatives of the deceased requested authorities not to conduct an autopsy. The police agreed to their request.

In a similar incident, on Thursday, five people, are feared to have drowned in the Nadrai canal in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district, as per news agency IANS. According to the report, eight friends, who went for a picnic to the Nadrai canal for Eid celebrations, waded into the waters for a bath. However, they weren't able to swim in the deep water. Panicking, they started raised an alarm. Another youth jumped in to save them. However, he also started drowning. Alerted by the commotion, some locals came to their rescue.
As soon as the police were informed, divers were pressed into service. Four people were rescued and efforts continued to rescue five others. But they were nowhere to be found.
