New Delhi: A suspected case of monkeypox has been reported from Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district as per a report by news agency IANS. The officials concerned informed that the sample of the suspected patient has been sent to King George's Medical University, Lucknow for further testing. As per the report Chief Medical Officer, Archana Srivastava had sent Dr Sarfaraz from the district hospital to Bidhuna to collect the sample. The suspected patient, a woman, lives in Bidhuna tehsil and had been suffering from fever and other monkeypox like symptoms for the past one week, the report stated adding that she has no immediate travel history.
Superintendent Dr Siddharth Verma said: "In view of the symptoms of a possible monkeypox case, these samples have been sent to KGMU, Lucknow, for investigation. The woman has been sent home with instructions for precautions."
As per the report quoting Verma, the woman was consulting a private doctor for the treatment, but when she did not get any relief, she went to get medicine from a former medical officer on bypass road on Sunday.
The former medical officer noticed small spots on the woman's body. The woman also complained of severe pain in her hands and soles.
Suspecting it to be a case of monkeypox, the medical officer informed the World Health Organization (WHO) over the phone.
The formal medical officer then referred the woman to a community health centre in Bidhuna and the Chief Minister's Office was also informed about the same.
So far, four cases of monkeypox have been reported in the country. A 34-year-old man from Delhi with no history of foreign travel tested positive for monkeypox on Sunday, while three other cases were earlier reported from Kerala.
