New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing to win the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections with a sweeping majority as it leads on most of the 27 seats, although it has lost the Varanasi seat to an independent candidate. The party has already won 9 out of 36 seats unopposed. 27 seats underwent polling for the Legislative Council across 58 districts in the state on April 9 and the counting of votes is underway today.
Congress and the BSP did not field any candidate in the Legislative Council elections, making it a direct fight between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s congratulated all the newly elected members of the Upper House. "Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the newly elected members of the Upper House of Uttar Pradesh," he tweeted.
