New Delhi: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday released a list of 54 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party fielded Khwaja Samsuddin against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from the Gorakhpur Urban constituency.


The 54 constituencies cover Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, Siddharthanagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Ballia districts.


The Mayawati-led party has given tickets to seven Muslim candidates in the latest list, the PTI reported. 


The BSP has fielded Santosh Tiwari from the Fazilnagar assembly constituency in the Kushinagar district. 


Tiwari will contest against Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate and former BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya, the report said. 


The BSP has fielded Prateek Pandey and Chandra Prakash Verma from the constituencies of Katehari and Akbarpur respectively. 







Both Katehari and Akbarpur fall under the Ambedkarnagar district.


Lalji Verma and Ram Achal Rajbhar had won from Katehari and Akbarpur respectively, in the 2017 state assembly elections.


Verma and Rajbhar joined the SP at a 'Janadesh Maharally' in Ambedkarnagar, in November last year. 


Sitting MLA Uma Shankar Singh has been fielded by the BSP from Rasra constituency in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.


The BSP  has named Rajendra Singh as its candidate from Chillupar in Gorakhpur, the PTI report said.


Earlier, the seat was held by Vinay Shankar Tiwari, who quit the party and joined the SP.


On March 3, Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, Siddharthanagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Ballia districts will go to polls in the sixth phase of the state assembly elections.
