A police sub-inspector from Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district has been suspended for allegedly luring a woman constable for marriage and then raping her repeatedly, said a police officer on Wednesday, according to news agency PTI. 


Sub-Inspector Ankit Singh was suspended on Monday by Superintendent of Police (SP) Sankalp Sharma, said Station Officer (SO) of the Gauri Bazar police station Dinesh Mishra, adding that efforts were on to nab him. 


He also said that the woman and inspector and the accused cop had known each other.

According to the case registered against Singh, the accused lured the woman constable, who was then posted in Azamgarh, to marry him and got into a physical relationship with her on March 2, 2020, the Station Officer said. 


The accused has allegedly clicked an indecent photograph of the woman constable, who claimed that Singh threatened to make the photo viral on social media. 


A case was registered based on the complaint made by the woman constable and the accused was booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the PTI report stated.

The woman constable will undergo medical examinations when she comes to Deoria in the next two to three days, said Mishra. 


According to the Superintendent of Police, the woman cop met the accused on February 9 and got a complaint lodged in connection with the case after which the case was registered at the Gauri Bazar police station on February 15.


The SP also said the mobile phone of the accused was switched off but he would be arrested soon.
