Lucknow: As the cases continue to surge, the Yogi Adityanath government has imposed a night curfew in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh announced Awanish K Awasthi, Additional Chief Secy, Home Dept. Additionally, there will be a 'complete lockdown' on Saturdays & Sundays starting from this weekend i.e., from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am, the whole state will be under lockdown. 


During the lockdown and curfews, only essential services will be allowed.

In the last 24 hours, the state of Uttar Pradesh, 167 died due to Covid-19 whereas 28287 new cases were recorded. Out of the 167, 22 deaths were in Lucknow, 18 from Kanpur city, 10 from Varanasi, 9 from Prayagraj and Chandauli each, 6 from Banda, 5 each from Bahraich, Shahjahanpur, Ballia and Gorakhpur while Meerut and Ayodhya reported 4 dead. 


Meanwhile, the Yogi Adiyanath led government challenged Allahabad High Court order's to impose a lockdown in the five states which are adding most numbers to the caseload in the Supreme Court. The SC in turn stayed the order; asked the state of Uttar Pradesh to submit its various steps and measures taken to control the pandemic, within a week to the High Court. 


Out of the 28287 new cases recorded in last 24 hours, 5897 new cases are from Lucknow, this is the highest number in the state. Aside from which, 2668 new cases were recorded in Varanasi, 1576 in Prayagraj and 1365 in Kanpur. There are currently 208523 patients undergoing treatment in the state. According to the official numbers, 200751 samples were tested in the state in the last 24 hours, with which 38467016 total samples have been tested in the state so far.
