Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry of India Jitin Prasada sustained minor injuries on his head in a road accident on Saturday. The accident occurred while he was on a tour of his parliamentary constituency Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh. As per sources, the minister's car collided with another vehicle of his convoy.


The incident occurred in Bahrua village located on Majhola-Vijti Road. Besides Prasada, his cook and personal secretary also sustained injuries. 


Following the accident, he left the damaged car at the spot and departed for Baharwa in another car.


The escort car in his convoy suddenly applied brakes, forcing the minister's car to stop as well. However, the car behind him could not maintain its balance somehow and ended up ramming into Prasada's car from behind.


The convoy's vehicle was moving at a high speed, due to which the minister's car was damaged significanlty, sources say.


The MoS had gone for a visit in his parliamentary constituency after it was hit by floods.


The vehicles of BJP district president Sanjeev Pratap Singh, MLA Pravaktanand, and MLC Sudhir Gupta.


The swollen Sharda and Devha rivers in Pilibhit had inundated around 50 villages in the district, disrupting the life there and submerging crops and habitations.


UP CM Yogi Adityanath had also conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Pilibhit's Puranpur, Bilaspur, and Sadar tehsil on July 10. He also met the flood-affected people in the district.


Prasada had taken charge as the Minister of State of Ministry of Commerce and Industry on June 11 in the presence of Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.


He had switched over to the saffron party from Congress two years ago. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he was named BJP's candidate for Pilibhit seat, replacing Varun Gandhi.


For over two decades, the Pilibhit constituency had been represented by Varun Gandhi's mother Maneka Gandhi.
