Protest Against Devasthanam Board: Devasthanam Board is creating new trouble for the Uttarakhand government. Tirtha purohits are adamant about dissolving the Devasthanam Board, while the government is not clear as to what decision should be taken regarding the Devasthanam Board.
Tirtha Purohits have been protesting the move alleging that the government's takeover of Char Dham sites and 51 temples by forming the Devasthanam Board would sideline them from the management of these shrines, which has been managed by them for centuries.
An important meeting regarding Devasthanam Board is going to be held in Dehradun tomorrow, after which it will be decided what the government plans for the formed board.
Tirtha Purohits Protest
Since the formation of the Devasthanam Board in Uttarakhand, tirtha purohits have opposed it. Even today, all the tirtha purohits are sitting on a dharna, demanding the dissolution of the Devasthanam Board. The priests allege that the government itself does not agree with the Devasthanam board.
Tirtha Purohits In Doubt
Government spokesperson Subodh Uniyal said Tirtha Purohits are themselves in a state of doubt. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Devasthanam Board will be held tomorrow under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in which some important decisions are expected to be taken.
Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj says that the Devasthanam Board will be considered in the meeting tomorrow.
Tirth Purohits Not Invited To Meetings
On the other hand, the pilgrim priests who have been sitting on a dharna for the last 35 days demanding the dissolution of the Devasthanam Board say that the government holds a closed-door meeting regarding the Devasthanam Board.
Brijesh Sati, the spokesperson of the Char Dham Mahapanchayat, says that the government has forcibly imposed the Devasthanam board on the pilgrimage priests, which has no significance, nor has the government called the pilgrimage priests to the meetings to date.
