New Delhi: As the poll-bound state of Uttar Pradesh heads towards elections scheduled early next year, the political temperature seems to be rising. In order to raise the morale of the party workers and lure the voters, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be on a day-long visit to Amethi on Saturday.
Gandhi will be participating in the ‘BJP bhagao, mehangai hatao’ (Remove BJP, Remove Inflation) padyatra in Amethi. The padyatra is a part of Congress’ nationwide campaign ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’. The campaign is aimed at exposing the mismanagement of the economy by the center.
The nearly six-kilometer-long padyatra will take place from Jagdishpur to Harimau. After the padyatra, he will also hold ‘chaupals’ (public meetings) in the rural areas. Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi will also visit Amethi on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.
Rahul Gandhi is visiting Amethi after almost two years. Amethi has always been the bastion of the Nehru-Gandhi family. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi had contested general elections from two constituencies, namely Amethi in UP and Wayanad in Kerala. He won from the Wayanad seat but lost Amethi.
The rally and the visit come ahead of the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh where BJP had a landslide victory with 312 seats in 2017. The state has 403 constituencies, from which the Samajwadi party had bagged 47 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party won 19 and Congress could only secure seven seats.
As the visit to Amethi by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi comes after a long time, the party workers are all set to welcome the brother-sister duo.
