New Delhi: Eight people were killed and 16 injured in a double-decker bus accident on Uttar Pradesh's Purvanchal expressway on Monday. The accident occurred near Barabanki after a speeding double-decker bus collided with a stationary bus, as reported by ANI. Both buses were en route from Bihar to Delhi.


The collision took place in the Barabanki district, about 30 km from Lucknow and an investigation is underway. "Three people are reported to be critical and have been referred to Trauma Center in Lucknow for treatment," Anurag Vats, SP Barabanki, told ANI. 


"Severely injured sent to the trauma centre, those with minor injuries treated at CHC. Post mortem being of those who died ongoing. Further investigation is underway,” SP Barabanki added.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death of the passengers in the accident and prayed for the departed souls.


“Instructions have been given to the concerned officials for speedy relief and rescue operations and proper treatment of the injured,” the CM wrote on Twitter.
