New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday razed down Prayagraj violence-accused Javed Ahmed’s house after the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) had put a notice outside the residence terming it to be “illegally constructed”.
Ahmed’s family has however claimed that the demolition was illegal adding that the authorities had not followed rules, as per a report by NDTV. The family also claimed that the residence was under the name of Ahmed’s wife and that he was not the actual owner of the house, the report stated. As per the family, the actual owner, Ahmed’s wife, never got any notice regarding illegal construction.
The notice put up at the residence of the Prayagraj-based politician hours before demolition claimed illegal construction on the ground and first floor of the house.
The notice further claimed that Ahmed had failed to respond to a demolition order that was sent to him in May this year — “a charge that has been firmly denied by the family,” the report stated.
As per the notice Ahmed was asked to get the illegal structure demolished by June 9, failing which a final notice was sent to him to vacate the house by 11 am on June 12.
However, all the claims stated in the notice by PDA have been refuted by the lawyers for the politician in a letter written to the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
The demolition came after UP Police had framed the Welfare Party of India (WPI) member as the “mastermind” of the violence that broke out in the city during a protest after the Friday prayers on June 10 over controversial comments made against Prophet Mohammad by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
Ahmed was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police as the “mastermind” of the violence on Saturday. Prayagraj Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Kumar informed that names of some people linked with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) have surfaced and that there could be more masterminds behind the violence.
As per Prayagraj SSP, 70 named and 5000 unnamed persons have been accused for the violence and action will be taken against them under the National Security Act and Gangster Act.
