New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut today at 1 PM to lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University. The University will be established at the Salawa and Kaili villages of the Sardhana town in Meerut at a cost of around Rs 700 crore.


According to a press release by the Prime Minister’s office, this University is “in line with PM's vision of establishing world-class sporting infrastructure in all parts of the country.”


As per the same release, the Sports University will be equipped with modern and state of art sports infrastructure. It will include a synthetic Hockey ground, Football ground, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Kabaddi ground, Lawn tennis court, Gymnasium hall, Synthetic running stadium, Swimming pool, Multipurpose hall, and a Cycling Velodrome.



It will also have facilities for shooting, squash, Weightlifting, Gymnastics, Archery, Canoeing, and Kayaking among other facilities. It will have a capacity to train 1080 sportspersons including 540 male and 540 female sportspersons.


As the election dates are coming near, PM Modi is launching a myriad of projects in the poll-bound state of Uttar Pradesh. Recently he inaugurated a part of Kanpur metro, which was followed by the inauguration of the first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. 


Earlier, he had inaugurated the Purvanchal Expressway, Kushinagar Airport, and launched an AIIMS Gorakhpur developmental project. He also inaugurated the Sarayu Canal project in eastern UP.


Meanwhile, according to the Hindu, recently, Congress had requested the Election Commission to take an action against BJP as they accused the ruling party of using government launch programmes for poll campaigning and launch attacks on the opposition.
