Amrit Bharat Vs Vande Bharat: Key Differences Between 2 Flagship Trains Launched By PM Modi

Amrit Bharat Express, earlier called Vande Sadharan, has Vande Bharat-style aerodynamically designed locomotives in terms of looks.

PM Modi Ayodhya Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Ayodhya, flagged off eight trains on Saturday, including two Amrit Bharat and six Vande Bharat trains.

Amrit Bharat Express, earlier called Vande Sadharan, has Vande Bharat-style aerodynamically designed locomotives in terms of looks, as per a Times of India report. However, unlike Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat Express is loco-hauled.

The Amrit Bharat train is an LHB push-pull train with non-air-conditioned coaches, whereas Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said earlier that Vande Bharat trains are based on distributed power technology, as per an Economic Times report.

In distributed power technology, the motor in every second or third coach runs on electricity supplied through overhead equipment.

According to a government press release, the Amrit Bharat train has locos at both ends for better acceleration. It provides improved facilities for rail passengers, like beautiful and attractively designed seats, a better luggage rack, a mobile charging point with a suitable mobile holder, LED lights, CCTV, and a public information system, among others. 

As far as Vande Bharat trains are concerned, it is a medium-distance semi-high-speed luxurious train with a maximum speed of 160 kmph, and the Amrit Bharat train, which has a focus on catering to the migrant labour force, has a maximum speed of 130 kmph.

In terms of number of coaches, Amrit Bharat Express trains will have 22 coaches, with a composition of 8 general second-class coaches for unreserved passengers, 12 second-class 3-tier sleeper coaches, and two guard compartments. There will be space for differently-abled passengers and woman passengers in another, the Times of India reported, citing railway sources. The sleeper train of Vande Bharat, scheduled to be launched next year, will consist of 16 coaches.

The Prime Minister flagged off two new Amrit Bharat trains, the Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express and the Malda Town-Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru) Amrit Bharat Express.

The Prime Minister also flagged off six new Vande Bharat trains. These include Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express; Amritsar-Delhi Vande Bharat Express; Coimbatore-Bangalore Cantt Vande Bharat Express; Mangalore-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express; Jalna-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express; and Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Vande Bharat Express.
